Sharm El Sheikh to St. Catherine and Colored Canyon Day Experience

Early in the morning, our representative will pick you up from your hotel to start our visit to the main highlights of the Sinai desert by our modern jeep. We are going to drive to the Saint Catherine Monastery which lies in the center of the Sinai Peninsula at an altitude of 1570 meters, where, by tradition, Moses saw the burning bush that was not consumed by fire. This monastery is at the foot of Jebel Musa, or Mount Sinai, where Moses received the tablets of the law with the Ten Commandments. The monastery dates back to the 6th century, during the reign of Emperor Justinian, at the same time that the enclosing wall was still extant. It was named Saint Catherine in the early 11th century in honor of Saint Catherine, one of the most ancient Christian martyrs from Alexandria.

Further down the line, we will make our way back along the St. Catherine road to about 65 kilometers north of St. Catherine to the start of the path for one of Sinai's geological wonders, the canyon. These remarkably narrow walls rise 40 meters high and are barely a meter wide at some points. It is made of sandstone, which makes for an extraordinary display of colors from dark brown to red and straw yellow, thanks to the magnesium and iron oxides present. Finally, we will return to the city of Dahab for lunch. You can have a walk on Dahab Street, Mashyia, before driving you back to your hotel.
